Indonesian and US forces conclude second Ksatria Warrior joint training exercise

Indonesian Army and United States Army Pacific forces concluded the Ksatria Warrior 2026 joint training exercise on Friday, August 28, marking the second iteration of this bilateral military cooperation program between the two nations.

The 15-day exercise, which ran from August 15-28 at the Kodiklatad Training Center in Baturaja, Ogan Komering Ulu District, South Sumatra, brought together soldiers from both armies for intensive combat training and capacity building.

Deputy Assistant VIII/Non-Asian Military Cooperation of the Army Operations Staff Colonel Inf. Medi Hariyo Wibowo, serving as inspector for the closing ceremony, emphasized the practical manifestation of bilateral cooperation principles throughout the training.

"This demonstrates that the spirit of mutual respect, mutual benefit, and mutual trust is not just a slogan, but has been embodied in every stage of the training," Wibowo said during the ceremony.

The exercise takes place within the framework of the Major Defense Cooperation Partnership established between the United States and Indonesia on April 13, 2026. This partnership agreement, built on three foundational pillars of military organization and capacity building, training and professional military education, and exercises and operational cooperation, represents a significant elevation in bilateral defense relations.

USARPAC Operations Officer-in-Charge Colonel Richard King highlighted the strengthening ties between the two nations reflected in the soldiers' performance during the exercise.

"The ability of Indonesian Army and US Army soldiers to coordinate and work together during the exercise reflected the strengthening ties between the two countries," King stated, adding that he hoped this relationship would continue for the common good, particularly in strengthening both countries' defenses.

Comprehensive Training Program

The Ksatria Warrior 2026 training curriculum covered theoretical, technical, tactical, staff, and operational aspects. Soldiers participated in Academic Day classroom instruction, Engineer Capabilities training that included renovation work at SDN 04 Peracak school, and decision-making exercises known as Staffex.

The program culminated in Field Training Exercises and Live Fire Exercises designed to enhance soldiers' technical, tactical, staff, and operational coordination capabilities.

Throughout the exercise, Indonesian Army and US Army soldiers built relationships through mutual learning, coordination, and communication, with the training aimed at sharpening combat capabilities while strengthening broader bilateral ties.

Broader Military Cooperation Context

The exercise represents one component of extensive ongoing military cooperation between the United States and Indonesia, which conduct more than 170 military exercises together annually. The Baturaja Combat Training Center has served as a key facility for US-Indonesia cooperation, also hosting the annual Super Garuda Shield exercise, which has been conducted since 2007.

Just three days after Ksatria Warrior concluded, the Super Garuda Shield 2026 exercise opened on August 31, involving more than 4,700 personnel from 13 countries plus observers from eight other nations, demonstrating an intensive period of multilateral defense engagement in the region.

US Army Pacific, headquartered at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, serves as the Army Service Component Command for United States Indo-Pacific Command, with forces positioned in Alaska, Hawaii, Japan, and South Korea, performing missions across Southeast Asia.

Wibowo expressed appreciation for all parties involved in the joint training and emphasized his hope that the exercise would continue to strengthen military cooperation and broader bilateral ties between Indonesia and the United States.
